Tired of owning accessories and scarves that lack oomph around your neck? Then Necklush just might be your answer. Necklush is a multifunctional accessory that may be worn either as a scarf, cowl or necklace. Handmade, the cotton-polyester bands sport free-form prints. Its versatility is one of its strengths. Worn in all seasons, it can be transformed in many ways to remain fresh and unique for both men and women. It comes in different sizes and prices, depending on the number of strands in the piece. As for colours? There’s a great variety, but if that isn’t enough, special orders may be placed.
Stephano Diaz and Troy Mattison Hicks are the proud creators of Necklush,, an original idea born in 2008. They take as their motto American artist Kahlil Gibran’s well-known quote: “Art arises when the secret vision of the artist and the manifestation of nature agree to find new shapes.” Diaz is from Seoul, South Korea, but has lived most of his life in New York. He is an interior designer and artist who studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Diaz has worked as a store designer for Calvin Klein, and spent seven years with designer Y&Kei.
Hicks as an artist has always been an outsider and was first represented by Roberto Cargo Folk Art Gallery. Later he turned to the creation of improvisational electronic pop music, touring the US. His interests lie in business, social media, and developing the website thisartisyours.tumblr.com, where he interviews artists and showcases affordable artwork from around the world.
The duo first started selling on Etsy.com and Supermarket.hq, two online marketplaces for handmade works. Today they have their own site. They’re located in Long Island City, NY. They describe Necklush as “sophisticated, fun, unique, futuristic, elegant and individualistic”, destined to be worn by “very cool people”, regardless of age. (All images courtesy of Necklush)
