Barbara Boner is a London-based accessories designer and alumni of the prestigious Central Saint Martins that knows what it takes for a bag to its owner stand out and look chic. A major role of the way she interprets her surroundings, has played her upbringing in many different cities of the world namely Washington, Boston, London, Toronto and Italy. Her many travels has
increased her awareness, adding fringes of avant-gardism to wedges of classicism. Barbara has has the charisma of a rock star on the opening night of the Opera, brings the hippie
culture in Buckingham Palace, and is a commedia dell’arte at La Scala, trates that are bestowed upon her bags too.
Each collection is a
tribute to the circensian nomadism of a grandmother with northern blood who was
enchanted by a passion for fire and love, a tribute to the refined taste of her
mother, an act of reverence to the scientific mind of her father. According to Barbara "the best thing you can wear is your skin," showing the strong independent and confident woman Boner has in mind that is comfortable with her self and is not afraid to experiment with her style.
For Boner bags are only a
starting point, an artistic palette through which the substance of style is shaped and flows. A Barbara Boner bag is designed to hold the many lives of nomadic women,
offering comfort for their perennial becoming, holding dreams and materials,
sheltering certainties and opportunities.
Barbara Boner thus
molds the fertile gift of creativeness with the production strictness of
fashion. She looks for innovation in every centimeter of material, both fabrics
and leathers, producing singular, extraordinary effects. Bright, austere
combinations are the result of a game, which is unaware it is research. A
Barbara Boner item is a view of being in the forefront, on the bricks of
classicism.
British ideas,
Italian production. London style and Tuscan essence. Fashion as an expressive need and formal requirement, a soft, but solid balance
between the excitement of creating and its rational boundaries. From the very
beginning through to Paris Fashion Week in March 2010, the most exclusive
international boutiques immediately chose Barbara Boner to dress every woman in
leather.
Boner's future plans include an online store, and the very exciting addition of cowgirl boots to her line. Barbara's ideal is to create a complete Barbara Boner look and to own a proper fashion house to her name, so stay tuned!
Barbara in between production for her latest accessories collection, traveling and meetings with buyers (that are constantly increasing and dying to showcase her bags on their racks!) was generous to dedicate the spare time that she has left and answer our questions:
Fashion-Pixel: What is your personal style when it comes to
dressing?
Barbara Boner: I considered my self eclectic even if I
like to mix up different style and I deeply love vintage. Lately I'm
becoming more and more rock and roll but I still pic up vintage pieces and
mix them with my wardrobe!
F-P: What is your favourite
colour?
BB: Even when I dress I wear black grey or white a lot. I'm simply in love
with the colors of nature and I love to play with them when I create my
bags. I mostly like to experiment with new color combinations. I like to be brave with colors!
F-P: Which designer do you
admire?
BB: I really admire Phoebe Philo. She's really
talented and every time she goes to a new level, recreating her style giving to
it a complete rebirth. I am totally in love with Sarah Burton too because I'm
already in it with Alexander McQueen and she gives a very feminine touch to the
Master's work!
F-P: Do you have a piece of
jewellery that means a lot to you? What is it? If you want, tell us why is it
so important to you?
BB: Last year my first child was
born. She completely changed my life in a positive way. That day my uncle,
who is a jewellery designer himself, gave to me a white gold neckless with her
name written on top. Wearing this piece is like having her always with me. One
day I'm going to give it to her and I'll consign her to the Life. (see Barbara's portrait below)
F-P: What are you going to
buy next for your wardrobe? Where from?
BB: I'm going to Ibiza on Tuesday and I'm sure that I'll find something to
buy!
Talking about a design piece
that I would like to add to my wardrobe I must say that I'm obsessed with
Mason Michel cat-eared headbands! (See photo below)

F-P: What is your
favourite outfit?
BB: I'm a simple girl and I love jeans or shorts during the day and a little
black cocktail dress at night, both styled with a Ginger fringe clutch of
course! (see photo below)
F-P: Do you usually buy clothes from your trips
abroad?
BB: Oooh yes I'm definitely a world wild shopper!
F-P: What piece would you
place in a fashion museum?
BB: Let me be ironic and self satisfied: my first Ginger bag, because it's a
master piece!
F-P: What is a key item that
all wardrobes should have?
BB: A good tailored coat that last forever.
F-P: Would you like to live in another era
BB: I live the Today very well but if I would have a time machine I would love
to spend sometime in two completely different eras. One is the Victorian age: I
always liked the decadent atmosphere and the costumes. But I also would like to
have lived the Woodstock Era. I can see myself screaming "Love &
Peace" at the concerts with my arms up and my boobs out!
F-P: What
inspires you?
BB: Definitely life. It will never end
to inspire me and surprise me.
F-P: What is your favourite
material to use?
BB: All kind of skins, of course!
F-P: What is your favourite
material to use?
BB: All kind of skins, of course!
F-P: What is your
fashion fetish?
BB: Scarves and hoods because I always need to have
my neck protected.

F-P: What is your
latest fashion obsession?
BB: Isabel Marant tie and dye jeans. (See photo below)
F-P: How do you determine
what is chic?
BB: Chic is an attitude and every woman can find hers. She just needs to know
how to wear well her proper skin. (You might know that my motto is "The
best thing you can wear is your skin")
F-P: Is there anything else
you would like to share with our readers?
BB: Fashion is my big passion. I'm investing all my energy to establish my
brand and I'm focused to create the Boner Mason. I'm also going to add in
the future clothes and shoes. Stay tuned.
