Noumenon: "Tridulum" Spring/Summer 2012

published in: Fashion Design, 23 May 2012

Tri Nouio is a young Taiwanese fashion designer that not long ago started his own fashion label, Noumenon, after graduating from Shih-Chien University: Department of Fashion Design.

The Noumenon brand is Nouio's first brand, and the brand started in 2011. Noumenon garments combine art, technology and fashion in the use of 3D imagery on fabric. The Taiwan-based brand combines futuristic aesthetics and classic silhouettes to create a unique signature style. I came up with this label base on a philosophy called a noumenon," explains Tri. Noumenon in the philosophy of Kant is an object as it is in itself, independent of the mind. "Customers should focus on being themselves,"he says. "We accessorize our body with outfits. And I offer the ideal clothing list to help the customers building their systems."

It took five whole months for Tri to fully complete his Tridulum collection including the concept, photo shooting, computer process, digital printing, pattern making etc. Nouio draws inspiration from local sources and the way he experiences and interprets the environment around him. "I don’t think about it, I just try to make it, to explain what I think about."

Though Nouio has stole the spotlight on many occasions, he still wants to grow before showcasing his collections in London. His current one is a way to express a contradiction: the contradiction of a visual shock, technological development and nature conservation. "3D technology can be turned into a science, but the technology media that allows me to express this situation is not high enough," Nouio explains. "High-tech development, conservation has not improved. Because the 3D is not perfect, it can not really reproduce the body. The 3D effect of the red and blue leads to the natural pattern of blurred visual effects at the same time, like the two sides of the same coin. So I think it is a suitable mean of expression. The pattern is what I do, I like taking pictures, I have a lot of passion in making the image."

Nouio has also has attended the Edged Showroom in Berlin in 2011 and the Moving Materials Expo in the Netherlands in 2012. He has been part of Wallpaper's Graduate Directory 2011. As for the future? Nouio explains: "Due to the difficulty of the brand management in Taiwan, we focus on the brand’s value. With the main design of the collection A/W 2012, we also develop the accessories project and the extended art project of S/S 2013. It’s not only a designer’s brand but also a running system of Tree diagram."
