Mirit Weinstock's Luxury Crafts Jewellery Line

published in: Accessories, 09 Aug 2012

M W is a luxury crafts jewellery label and the brainchild of Mirit Weinstock, a 35-year-old Israeli jewellery designer with a passion for exceptionally made and unique accessories. After graduating from Shenkar college in July 2002, Mirit was invited to participate in ITS#ONE in Trieste, Italy.

Talented as she is she has managed to intern for the likes of such great fashion brands as Alexander McQueen, Li Edelkeert's trend magazine "View On Colour," and Lanvin. Alber Elbaz, Artistic Director of Lanvin, has said of her stint while working for the label: "Through her entire internship, Mirit proved the highest professional qualities. Her work was creative, conceptual, precise, original and inspiring".

At the beginning of 2004, Weinstock launched her own label of ready to wear fashion for women. In 2011, Mirit not only started a MA -two years program "Master of Fine Arts" at the Bezalel academy, Tel Aviv, but also launched her new international jewellery brand M W that is sold in specialty stores Such as Colette in Paris, ZOZO in Japan, Anthropologie in the USA and many more.

For Fall 2012, Mirit Weinstock devided her women's collection into two categories, and also presented her first men's collection.

The inspiration for the first group of the women's collection was found in eyes, tears, the moon, satellites, stardust and the sky at night. Silver domes and octagons covered with enamel are at the center of this group, combined with feather eyelashes, chains of tears, sapphire and smoky quartz stones. To these I added fake eyelashes dipped in silver and gold.

The second group of the collection was inspired by the Senecio Daisy's poetic white seed puffs, Pussy-willow branches carrying pretty, fuzzy, furry flowers, and leafs. I created lean silver branches and combined them with stones, fake eyelashes and the original dry furry flowers to create pendants and brooches. This fusion of inspirations and materials created a colorful and surprising handmade new collection, where each jewelry is unique and singular.

The men's collection is a small concept group, inspired by the human spine, presenting silver neck pieces, brooches and cufflinks.

Mirit filled in our Fashion-Pixel questionnaire, and without further ado we present you her answers:

MW: In my jewelry collections I love to take materials such as shuttlecock ball feathers or Raffia fibers and explore ways I can transform them into jewelry. Usually by reconstructing them, knitting, braiding, covering them is silver or gold… I'm fascinated by materials and try to explore each season new ones.

F-P: How do you determine what is chic?
MW: The right personality can make any look chic, really it's more about the people and less about the outfit...
