Now that the weather in London is much colder, and layering is an essential way of dressing, I always prefer the minimalistic approach to knitwear. While researching for the matter, I stumbled upon Eleonora Niccolai's namesake brand and decided to feature her work for the Fashion-Pixel.com crowd, hoping it will stroke the same sensitive stroke for you as she did for me.
Eleonora Niccolai is an Italian brand dedicated to customers that focus is on the form and quality of yarns. What makes Niccolai's brand so unique is that each garment is draped on the body of the model. Each design comes out by the intuition of the designer who dislikes conventions, anti-fashionable and anti-bourgeois to create something different. And indeed it is this special feature that her philosophy is also shared by a clientele with an eye for avant-garde, new textures and fits.
Eleonora was born in Florence, Italy. She studied design knitwear at the Polimoda
school in Florence, Italy and then moved to London to work for Vivienne Westwood. She returned to
Florence two years after and started expressing her creativity working as a
stylist.
In 2010, Niccolai created her first personal brand that carries her name
when she produced her Spring/Summer women's collection and was
immediately appreciated by both markets and fashionistas for its surprising and sometimes provocative shapes
which, even when chaotic, retain their peculiar style. She was also honored recently
as Best Emerging Designer during the last edition of Inside White.
The Autumn/Winter 2012-13 knitwear women's collection /ELEONORANICCOLAI consists of 25 garments dominated by winter
colours like black, charcoal and dark grey.
Niccolai's designs are the result of the designer's feelings and are inspired by nothing
less than her personal and simple idea of freedom. Her brand intentionally without notions, presents non-linear silhouettes with wide
cuts to come in contrast with soft lines, all together conveying a pleasant sense
of flow, lightness and speed.
Each piece fits just as if it were draped directly on the body,
sprouting unusual forms which come to life in the shape of scarfs, hoods and
other fine details.
Niccolai's collection suggests a never-ending metamorphosis which enhances the infinite creative
and expressive possibilities allowed by knitwear and which offers the wearer of /ELEONORANICCOLAI the chance to live
each piece of clothing the way her fantasy suggests.
