LOTHO: Eyewear With Personality

My boyfriend recently had to wear glasses, and asked me to help him find the pair that would suit him best. As the fashion-forward person of this relationship I was looking fora pair with a bit of Va-Va-Voom, something that would not only enhance his everyday style, but also one that would compliment his personality too. After our of searching in stores and online, I stumbled upon LOTHO, an eyewear brand that seemed to have it all: Personality, original design and great quality! After all, eyewear whether optics or sunglasses is still an accessory worth investing in.

LOTHO was inspired and originated from the rich and symbolic universe of British visionary artist William Blake's poem. Seeing something special where nothing can be seen, changing what you are seeing and giving life to what is reflected in your eyes. 100 unique feelings and styles for a 100 different people, such is what LOTHO strives to create. Established in 2008 in Paris, LOTHO has a strong emphasis on design, reinventing classic and yet modern shapes combined with materials and colours that redefine each model and allow the wearer to fit his personality in the best possible way. The idea of the brand was originated by artist and design all-rounder Coco. Their frames are handmade in Japan to the highest standards.

Born in Japan, studied advertising design at F.I.T in NYC. Having mainly worked in design in the fashion environment, Coco also experienced different dimensions of the creative process as an artist, art director, designer, worked as well as on short movies, craft, magazines, advertising. In 2006, a meeting with one of the most famous and long-established eyewear makers in Japan triggered her interests and a strong vision to make her own eyewear design, after carefully studying for 2 years glass making and the glass industries she set her mind on starting LOTHO. Today LOTHO frames are handmade in Japan to the highest standards.

 According to the designer "glasses are and must remain a very fun object of the daily life that can satisfy one’s desire to always be different or change style. Discovering something new in you is such a great feeling. Being still new to the glass design field, I hope that my fresh and somehow candid approach and my curiosity result in exciting and new products.Compared to any other fashion related item, glasses are very special products in a league of their own. By essence, glasses are something very physical, not only are they protecting your eyes from harm, they also have a strong interaction with your bone structure and facial features. On top of it, they also have to be very special, fashionable, original, wearable and joyful," Coco explains.

The movie universe played a strong influence on the designer idea and vision for LOTHO. The creation of the glasses took the form of an imaginary casting where each actor has a defined personality and attitude. The desire to propose glasses with a strong individual character also shows in the name each glass was given.
